Why Watching the Fourth of July Fireworks from The Westin Savannah Harbor Hotel Room Was the Perfect Family-Friendly View

There is something incredibly special about watching fireworks on the Fourth of July, but watching them from a hotel room overlooking the Savannah River made the night feel unforgettable.

This year’s Fourth of July was extra meaningful because it marked America’s 250th anniversary. Savannah was celebrating in a big way, and we were blessed to be there for it. Even more special, this was our first trip with our newborn, so everything about the weekend felt like a memory we would hold onto forever.

Before this trip, I probably would have thought the “best” place to watch fireworks was right in the middle of the action – standing along the waterfront, surrounded by people, music, and the excitement of the crowd. But after experiencing the Savannah fireworks from our hotel room at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, I can honestly say that watching from a room might be the best way to do it, especially when traveling with a baby.

Why We Chose to Watch from Our Hotel Room

Traveling with a newborn changes the way you think about everything. Before having a baby, we might have gone down to the waterfront, found a spot in the crowd, and waited for the fireworks to begin. But this time, our priorities were different.

We wanted to enjoy the Fourth of July celebration, but we also wanted to keep our baby safe, comfortable, and away from anything too overwhelming. Crowds can be stressful with a newborn. You have to think about noise, people getting too close, stroller space, heat, bathrooms, feeding, and how long it will take to leave once the event is over.

The biggest reason we wanted to stay in the room was because of his ears. Fireworks are loud, and even though they are beautiful, they can be a lot for a little baby. Watching from inside our hotel room gave us the perfect balance. We still got to experience the magic of the fireworks, but without having to stand in a crowded area or worry about the sound being too intense for him.

It made the night feel peaceful instead of stressful. We could hold him, feed him, change him, and let him rest while still having one of the best views of the entire show.

The View from The Westin Savannah Harbor

The Westin Savannah Harbor sits across the river from Savannah’s historic waterfront, which made it such a beautiful place to stay for the Fourth of July. From our room, we could see the water, the city, and the fireworks being launched from a barge in the middle of the Savannah River.

The show started around 9:30 p.m. and lasted about 20 minutes. From the moment the first firework went up, we were completely amazed. The colors reflected over the water, the skyline was lit up in the background, and it felt like we had our own private fireworks show.

There was something so calm about watching it from the room. We did not have to fight for a spot. We did not have to worry about someone blocking our view. We did not have to pack a bag, carry the baby through crowds, or figure out how to get back to the hotel afterward.

We simply opened the curtains, settled in, and watched the show together as a family.

A Fireworks Show We Will Never Forget

The fireworks show itself was incredible. Nothing beats it. There were so many moments where the entire sky lit up, and it felt like the show kept getting bigger and better as it went on.

Because the fireworks were being launched from a barge in the Savannah River, the display felt perfectly centered over the water. It gave the whole show a classic waterfront celebration feel. There is something about fireworks over a river that makes them even more beautiful, especially when the colors reflect off the water below.

One funny and unexpected part of the night was that the fireworks had to pause temporarily because a large cargo ship was coming through. It was such a Savannah moment. You are watching this beautiful Fourth of July fireworks show, and then suddenly the river reminds you that it is still a working waterway. It honestly made the experience even more memorable.

Once the ship passed, the show continued, and the finale was absolutely worth it. It was one of those travel moments where you look around and think, “I am so glad we did this.”

The Westin’s Fourth of July Weekend Activities

Another thing that made staying at The Westin Savannah Harbor so fun was that the hotel had activities going on throughout the weekend. Some were complimentary, and some had an extra cost, but it made the whole stay feel more festive.

During our stay, we were able to enjoy classic holiday treats like root beer floats, s’mores, cotton candy, popcorn, and other fun little extras. Those small touches made the weekend feel like more than just a hotel stay. It felt like the hotel was helping create the Fourth of July experience without us having to leave the property.

The Westin also had a fireworks viewing area set up below for guests who wanted to watch outside. We personally did not do that because watching from our room worked best for us with the baby, but it was nice to know that there were options. For families, couples, or anyone who wants a more organized viewing experience without crossing over into the busiest waterfront crowds, having a hotel viewing area is a great perk.

Why a Hotel Room Is the Best Place to Watch Fireworks

After this trip, I fully understand why watching fireworks from a hotel room is one of the best ways to enjoy a big holiday celebration.

First, it is comfortable. You have air conditioning, a bathroom, snacks, drinks, and your own space. If you are traveling with a baby or young kids, that alone is a huge benefit.

Second, it is safer and less stressful. You do not have to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a crowd or worry about how loud the fireworks are up close. You can still enjoy the celebration while having a little distance from the chaos.

Third, it makes the night easier. Once the fireworks are over, you are already back in your room. There is no long walk back, no waiting in traffic, and no trying to navigate through a crowd with a tired baby.

Fourth, the view can actually be better. From a higher floor or river-facing room, you may have a clearer view than you would from the ground. At The Westin Savannah Harbor, being across the river gave us such a beautiful perspective of the fireworks over the water and the city lights behind them.

A Perfect First Trip with Our Newborn

This Fourth of July trip will always be special to us because it was our first real trip with our newborn. Traveling with a baby can feel intimidating at first, but this experience reminded us that it is possible to still make memories, just in a slightly different way.

Instead of being in the middle of the crowd, we were together in a quiet hotel room. Instead of worrying about the noise, we could focus on the moment. Instead of rushing around, we could slow down and enjoy our baby’s first Fourth of July trip in a way that felt safe and peaceful.

And honestly, I would not have changed a thing.

Watching the Savannah fireworks from The Westin Savannah Harbor was one of the best decisions we made on this trip. Between the beautiful river view, the comfort of the room, the hotel’s holiday activities, and the ability to enjoy the celebration without stress, it was the perfect way to experience the Fourth of July as a new family.

If you are planning to visit Savannah for the Fourth of July, especially with a baby or young children, I would highly recommend looking into a hotel with a river view. Sometimes the best seat in the house is not in the middle of the crowd.

Sometimes, it is right from your hotel room.
