Why This North Carolina Icon Has Been Our Favorite Getaway Since 2018

There are certain places you visit once and check off a list… and then there are places that become part of your life. For me and Katie, the Biltmore Estate falls into that second category.
We’ve been visiting since we first started dating back in 2018, and somehow, every single time feels different – but just as special. Whether it’s the blooming gardens in spring, the warm mountain air in summer, or the magical Christmas transformation in winter, the Biltmore always gives you a reason to come back.
How Much Does It Cost to Visit the Biltmore?
Let’s start with the question everyone asks: is it worth the price?
Tickets typically range from about $80 to $120 per person, depending on the season and demand. Holidays and peak times, especially Christmas, are on the higher end, while off-season visits are a bit more affordable.
What makes it worth it is everything that comes with that ticket. You’re not just paying to walk through a house. You get a full self-guided tour of the mansion, access to the gardens and miles of walking trails, and entry into the winery where you can enjoy a complimentary wine tasting. When you look at the full experience, it easily turns into an all-day adventure.
The House Tour: Stepping Into Another Era

Walking through the Biltmore feels like stepping into a different world. Every room carries its own story, and the scale of everything is honestly hard to wrap your head around until you’re standing in it.
During the holidays, it becomes even more special. Each room is decorated with its own Christmas tree, and the estate creates a massive gingerbread replica of the mansion itself. The decorations don’t feel overwhelming – they’re done in a way that enhances the beauty of the home instead of taking away from it. It creates this warm, almost nostalgic feeling as you walk through each space.
The Gardens & Grounds: A Different Experience Every Season

One of the biggest reasons we keep coming back is how much the estate changes throughout the year. In the spring and summer, the gardens are full of life. Flowers are blooming everywhere, colors are vibrant, and it’s the perfect setting to just walk and take everything in.
In the fall, the entire estate transforms with rich reds, oranges, and yellows covering the mountains and grounds. It’s one of the most beautiful places to experience fall in North Carolina.

Then winter comes, and everything shifts indoors. The focus becomes the decorations, the atmosphere, and the holiday spirit inside the mansion. Each season offers something completely different, which is why it never feels repetitive.
The Winery (Yes, It’s Included 🍷)
The winery is one of those parts of the experience that people sometimes overlook, but it’s something we always look forward to.
Your ticket includes a free wine tasting, which makes it feel like an added bonus to the day. The first time we ever visited, we weren’t even able to do it because we were underage. Now, it’s become part of our tradition every time we go.
The funny thing is, we don’t really drink at home. But if we ever do pick up a bottle, it’s almost always Biltmore wine. There’s just something about the connection to the place and the memories that makes it more meaningful.
Antler Hill Village: Shops, Events, and Hidden Gems

Beyond the mansion itself, there’s an entire area called Antler Hill Village that adds even more to the experience. It’s filled with small shops, unique items, and little details that make it feel cozy and fun to explore.

There are often events happening there too. Twice, we ended up visiting during a miniature train showcase, and honestly, I thought it was one of the coolest things there. It’s one of those unexpected experiences you don’t plan for but end up loving.

The historic farm is also still active, where you can see animals like goats and chickens up close, and even interact with them. It adds a completely different layer to the estate, especially for families.

And the ice cream? Easily some of the best we’ve had. Knowing the estate originally started as a dairy farm supplying milk to the town makes it feel even more fitting.
Where to Stay: On the Estate vs Asheville
If you’re planning to stay overnight, there are options directly on the estate, including the Inn on Biltmore Estate up on the hill and accommodations in the village area.
That said, we personally prefer staying outside the estate in Asheville. Asheville has such an amazing atmosphere with great food, local shops, and beautiful mountain views. It gives you the chance to experience more than just the estate itself and makes the trip feel more well-rounded.
Hurricane Damage & Recovery
In recent years, parts of the Asheville area were impacted by severe storms and hurricane-related weather systems, which caused damage to sections of the historic village areas outside the estate.
While the Biltmore itself has remained a strong centerpiece, some surrounding areas took a hit. The good news is that the community has been rebuilding, and things are steadily coming back. Visiting now or in the near future is a great way to support the area as it continues to recover.
Why the Biltmore Keeps Bringing Us Back
For me, this place is more than just an attraction. My family brought me here a few times growing up, and now it’s something Katie and I have made part of our own story.
It’s one of those rare places that truly works for everyone. Kids can enjoy the open space and farm, adults can appreciate the history and atmosphere, and couples get that perfect mix of relaxing and memorable moments together.
Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?
Absolutely.
If you’re looking for something to do toward the end of 2026 or heading into 2027, this is a place worth experiencing. It’s not just about seeing a historic home. It’s about everything that comes with it – the memories, the atmosphere, and the feeling you get while you’re there.
And if you’re anything like us, it won’t just be a one-time visit. It’ll turn into a tradition.
